7 Easy Steps To House Training Your Dog

Follow these 7 simple steps to have a house-trained dog.

dog potty training    How To Potty Train Your Dog Or Puppy

Potty training your dog or puppy is often the first and most important part of training your puppy and a good dog training guide is needed to do it properly.  But, these simple steps will get you started on the right path.  Not all dogs are equal when it comes to potty training. Some breeds of dogs are easier to potty train than others. Even individual dog, even in the same breed, can vary greatly in how easy or difficult they are to potty train.

Here are some general tips to help you train your puppy.

  1. Confine your puppy when nobody is around to watch him. Do this always, even if you are just stepping out of the house for a few minutes to run to the grocey store.
  2. Keep your dog in rooms with tile or wood, rather than carpet. This those dog potty training makes mistakes easier to clean up.
  3. Keep your puppies potty space clean. Both you and he don't like to step in it the house-training accidents
  4. Take your pup to potty often: in the morning, after meals, before bed, after a nap, after a play session, and in the middle of the night if you awake to hear him moving about.
  5. Use a leash and take the dog straight to the spot you want him to use the bathroom.  That will train the dog to use that exact spot, and with you standing there, the dog will learn that he can still do his doggy business even if he's on a leash with you standing right there.
  6. Buy dry food for your puppy. This keeps their stool hard and easy to clean up when the puppy goes in the house.
  7. Puppies need lots of water, especially with dry food. But, feed your puppy well before bedtime (at least 3-4 hours), and don't let him have any water at least 2 hours before bed.  This will reduce the number of midnight potty training wake-ups.

If you are too busy potty train your dog, or you don't have the time or patience to correctly house-train your dog or puppy, consider adopting or buying a puppy or older dog that has already been potty trained.  Or, consider buying a dog training guide that will not only give you tips to speed up the house training process, but will tell you how to do obedience training, aggression training, give you tips on dog care, and give you other valuable dog training information.
