Dog Obedience Training
The importance of dog obedience training

Dog obedience training is a way for owner and dog to learn to speak with each other successfully. Contrary to public opinion, obedience training is not some method by which a dog learns to perform some necessary but artificial activity on command. There is much more depth to obedience training, as it taps into the genetic code hard-wired into every dogs brain.  It is recommended you buy a complete dog training guide that covers not only obedience training, but every other type of dog training and dog care.  But, for starters, basic obedience training is agreat way to establish a solid relationship with your companion.

Nearly all behavior problems are perfectly normal canine activities thatoccur at the wrong time or place or are directed at the wrong thing. Obedience training doesn't solve all behavior problems, but it is the foundation for solvingjust about any problem. Training is most effective when dogs or cats are rewarded for the good or desirable things they do while being ignored, redirected or corrected for showing unwanted behavior.

Obedience training with your dog can be a lot of fun. Training a puppy is easier than training an adult dog because a puppy is more open to new ideas and has not yet developed "bad habits". Training for obedience competitions builds on basic obedience training. Dogs are social animals and without proper training, they will behave like animals.

A good trainer will never use food as the ONLY inducement for making a dog obedient, but if your slow performer peps up when you give food, use it to overcome problems. For good obedience dog training, add a few tricks to the repertoire for fun and deal with the problems as they arise, and you'll have a well-mannered pet. For a dog to be considered obedient rather than simply trained in obedience, it must respond reliably each time the command is given, by what is commonly known as its handler.

Dog obedience training gives them confidence and security. It is NOT necessary to establish yourself as top dog or leader of the pack by using extrememeasures such as the so-called alpha roll-over. Effective communication is necessary when giving your dog obedience training. This is to instruct your dog about what you want them to do. Remember, an obedient dog is a happy dog.

Obedience training is the key to having a dog that is an enjoyable pet. Obedience training is quite simply training your dog to be obedient. In fact, obedience training is critical in nurturing the most positive aspects of human-animal relationship. Dog obedience training is the basis for you and your best friend to have a long and happy life together. Basic obedience training is a must to ensure a well balanced and happy life with your dog.

A complete guide to obedience training would contain too much information to be condensed into one short article.  For an in-depth step-by-step guide on obedience, as well as other dog training and dog health care, see the SitStayFetch Dog Training Guide.
